Course Syllabus
- TITLE OF COURSE: - CSE1711 - Dreamweaver I
- COURSE DESCRIPTION:
One Credit Hour – Lecture.
This beginning course will give students the tools needed to start designing effective Web sites using Dreamweaver 8. Concentration will be on learning the parts of a Web site, how to build a Web site, and how to incorporate good design principles into the site. Students should know the basics of using a computer, be familiar with the Internet and e-mail, and have access to Dreamweaver 8. For each unit of
credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and
two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.

The CIS Program will provide superior learning opportunities in the area of information technology, utilizing state-of-the-art technology, for both CIS majors and non CIS majors to enable all students to achieve their career and/or educational goals.

Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the following SCCC/ATS Outcomes:
- Outcome #1 – Read with comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply knowledge gained to real life situations.
- Outcome # 5 – Demonstrate the ability to think critically by gathering facts, generating insights, analyzing data, and evaluating information.
- Outcome # 6 - Utilize current technology relevant to their respective disciplines.
- Outcome #9 – Exhibit workplace skills that include respect for others, teamwork competence, attendance/punctuality, decision making, conflict resolution, truthfulness/honesty, positive attitude, judgment, and responsibility.
- COURSE OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of the Dreamweaver I course with 80% or higher mastery of course competencies, the student should be able to:
- Define basic Web page creation and identify its various applications
- Identify the various component needed for Web page creation
- Develop and understanding of the Web page creation process
- Create Web pages that incorporate good layout and design
- COURSE OUTLINE:
- Plan content for a Web site
- Identify principles of good design
- Get started using Dreamweaver
- Develop a web page
- Work with text and graphics
- Work with links
- INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:
- Lectures, examples, presentations.
- Hands-on student exercises and projects covering individual units.
- Related readings and reports from computer magazines, Internet and other related media.
- Instructors will enforce the Academic Honor Code & Cheating Policy as set forth in the SCCC College Catalog. Students who fail to adhere to this policy will receive an F for the course final grade unless otherwise stated in the instructor’s course policies.

- Web Pages That Suck
- METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: SCCC/ATS Outcome #1 will be assessed through students reading various articles from their text, the internet and magazines dealing with web design and applying what they have read to their hands-on projects.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome # 5 will be assessed by students researching and evaluating various web sites and articles and then discussing their findings.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome # 6 will be assessed by students appropriately utilizing web design technology.
- SCCC/ATS Outcome #9 will be assessed by evaluating student projects, their time logs, and self evaluations.
- General Course Outcomes 1-4 will be assessed through the daily evaluation of student work.
- General Course Outcomes 1-4 will be assessed by reviewing the student web design projects and the various techniques they incorporated into the project
